BikieChic – Brisbane R&R Nov13

17/02/2014 by Selena

Selena and I flew to Brisbane to bring back a couple of the rental bikes. We were supposed to fly to Cairns to do this, but the 2 old guys that had hired the bikes called it quits at Brisbane! Needless to say we weren’t impressed, so we had to change our flights etc. We’ve ridden back from Cairns a few times and really enjoy it.

Check out this little video Di put together;

Anyway we arrived at Brissy on a beautiful day and rode a whole 100klms to a place in the Gold Coast Hinterland called Binna Burra. We stayed at the Mountain Lodge, absolutely fabulous! Now I don’t think guys would enjoy it because there are no TV’s in the rooms but we did have Wi-Fi. That is so important to us girls, need to keep in touch with everyone!

Here’s a few pics of the lodge and the fantastic view we had up there! You could see the Hinze Dam in the distance. Lots of wildlife and they even pack you up a picnic lunch to take on your walks. Of course we took a reasonable supply of champagne and wine and had a trolley to help us carry our gear to our little cabin.

After staying 2 nights at our little mountain retreat we headed off to check out some roads.

Leaving Beaudesert we decided to go along the Mt Lindsay Hwy instead of Lions Rd, great twisty road and turned off at Woodenbong. Then headed south to Urbenville, it has the pub with bikes on the roof!

Then I found a shortcut that was a real goat track, lots of cows on the road. I define it as “a goat track” when the grass is growing thru the bitumen! And the wooden bridges have holes in them!

We then followed the Bruxner Hwy to Tenterfield and stopped at Drake to have our picnic lunch that the mountain lodge had again packed for us (all included in the price)

Arrived at Tenterfield and as usual the locals always want to chat. “where are you going?” “where have you come from?” It was still only mid afternoon so we decided to gun it down the New England and spend the night at Glen Innes. It was a fantastic day of riding even though it got to 35 degrees.

Sad thing about Glen Innes is the 2 pubs we went to didn’t sell champagne so we went to the Serviceman’s Club, they had it! And a nice little restaurant. Should have listened to my husband, he’s been there the week before! The young barman was interested that we came from Sydney as he’s never been there. It makes you realise what a great lifestyle we all have riding motorcycles!

We left Glen Innes on a chilly morning but not a cloud in the sky! Decided to ride the Gwyder Hwy. It was a fantastic road, hardly any traffic, great corners and a few wonderful lookouts. Most of you know Selena and I love taking pictures! Met some more interesting people, they always come and talk to us.

After a few hours we skimmed around the back of Grafton, thanks to the gps, Came out at Coutts Crossing, fuelled up and headed thru Nymboida. I needed to check out a few places for our BikieChic Adventures.

Weather was perfect, a few lots of scary road works, lots of scraping around the corners but lots of fun. Arrived in Ebor at the café for afternoon tea & ran into Ashley Beaton, great friend of ours who owns North Coast V Twins. Him and a few mates were just out for a ride.

We eventually left, found another “goat track” and a very stubborn cow, then arrived at Armidale for the night. Great little restaurant next to the motel where the waitress always remembers us. It was a delight to sit on the verandah and have a few drinks!

Early night again, lot of miles the next day.

So we left Armidale, rode thru Walcha and decided to ride the Oxley. Another perfect day, blue sky, no clouds, couldn’t ask for more! We were the first ones to arrive at Gingers Creek for morning tea, very quiet as it was a Thursday. Took some great shots, just love that camera of mine!

The whole way along the Oxley was good, no traffic, a few lots of roadwork’s, lots of corners & more rubber off the heels of my boots. I was on a Honda Shadow and it just doesn’t corner as easy as my modern BM. It’s so low to the ground! But, OMG, I love riding big cruisers!

Finally arrived at Long Flat where they were setting up for the rally that weekend. We turned off at Wauchope (another shortcut thanks to the gps) and rode towards the main highway, even had to get the tool kit out, saddle bag bracket was just about off! Pulled in at Kew and firmed up our repairs then headed to Wingham for lunch. Really pretty roads out there. From there we rode to Gloucester on the worst roads ever in NSW.

A nice lookout at the end made up for it!

The next morning woke to rain! Very disappointed! So after a long breakfast with our good friend Megan from Imelda Shoes, we finally left for home.

Another fantastic road trip, found some great roads and had lots of laughs. Cant wait for the next one!

Until next time,

Selena & Di
